BIJAPUR MANSION

This 20,000 square foot villa situated in Bijapur in North Karnataka, is a multi generational home. The client wanted a modern home but with some influence of the traditional architecture that exists without the region. The clients fascination for the traditional columns that are seen in most heritage courtyard homes was a point of influence in developing the architectural aesthetic. The challenge was to convert a traditional element into a modern interpretation so as to fit into the modern design language of the facade. Having white columns with lesser details to support canopies that bind the house to the outhouse block blends well with the modern glass and stone features of the villa. the client wanted a pool and outhouse block for catering to parties with a toilet block. Hence a connected canopy that binds the house to the outhouse which creates a pavilion for outdoor entertainment and dining becomes a feature in terms of planning and aesthetics. With most public areas on the ground floor and private ares on the first and amenities on the second floor, this modern home speaks of tradition.
