The proposed refurbishment of the old heritage wing of the iconic Breach Candy hospital is a major challenge due to the old load bearing structure and existing services that are difficult to change leading to certain limitations of design .

Inspired by the ‘Art Deco’ architectural style of the building , the interiors are a modern interpretation of this style to carry forward the outside into the insides . The uplift the overall amenities of the hospital by having spatial re-organisation of existing facilities while the hospital is functioning is a major challenge that was posed and a phase wise methodology to reconstruct the areas was implemented to ensure refurbishment doesn’t affect the day to day functioning of the hospital. The ambience was created to ensure that it beats away from the way normal hospitals look like and is a more elevated experience that one sees at their homes or at hotels . The whole idea was to ensure that a sick person’s mental state of well being is uplifted with the new spatial environment and aesthetics and thereby by contributing in the well-being of the people who need care and also the care givers .
