The brief for this project was to use redundant waste space below the steps of the stadium seating of the famous Wankhede stadium. The difficulty was that the banquet was split at two levels due to the incline profile of the step seating above. As a program it was decided to extend the food area at the lower level which is accessed by a ramp from the kitchen at the upper level. The main hall was kept at the upper level as that was the space closest to the entry point. The overall theme had to have subtle elements of cricket and had to feel regal and royal keeping in mind the rich cricketing tradition. The design language was kept contemporary with few hints of motifs that formed a pattern in the flooring and across jalis in the space. The clever concealing of chimneys with backlit design mirror camouflages all the services from the guest. Murals commemorating the Indian team‘s World cup victory and the legendary Sachin Tendulkar adorn the large dead walls along one side of the hall.
A great transformation of a redundant space to generate revenue is evident through this project.
